Babolat Pure Storm

Babolat Pure Storm

Like its predecessor, this racquet features a blend of control and light weight that allows the player to have maneuverability and the ability to hit shots with ease. The most prosperous technology makes a comeback on this frame, the Woofer. The Woofer technology acts as a suspension system for the strings to provide more control and forgiveness when miss-hits occur for a much better performance on the court. This racquet has also been fitted with Carbon Extreme technology which has replaced the zylon matrix that was present on the team version. This new feature allows for the frame to become stiffer and therefore allow for more stability and control. Not to be misleading by the new features added to this racquet, this frame still retains a heap of power that can be harnessed by any player.

GroundStrokes

The new technologies add to the great new feel and stiffness. While hitting forehands, this racquet holds solid and is very spin friendly. This became useful during long rallies as I was able to change the pace of the point quite often to keep my opponent on their toes, which I believe won me most of my points. When on the offensive, I was able to open the court with ease due to the racquet being very spin friendly. I found myself wanting to hit more inside-outs because of the comfort and confidence this racquet offered me on my forehand. On the backhand side, I found I was able to apply more backspin on my backhand than usual that came in handy during defense. I also noticed that this racquet is very versatile and responds well in both flattened and high-spin shots. I felt confidant in my shots enough to pull my opponent in to hit a winning passing shot. This made my opponent second guessing coming into the net. (It is always a good thing to keep them away from the net.) I found myself feeling comfortable enough to take a step inside the baseline and try to take my shots earlier. This racquet shined well over my standards for racquets and performance.

At the Net

At the net, this racquet performed solid as a rock. The lightweight allowed me to maneuver the frame easily and position my racquet head exactly where I wanted it for easy put-aways and easy shot setups. The racquet was easy to handle and held itself well. The control came into great addition allowing for easy deep and drop volleys. I found that with this racquet, balls rarely passed me. I really enjoyed this racquet at the net.

Serve

This racquet on serve performed to an all-round level. This racquet, even though did not have a heavy weight, still has some power hidden in the frame. I enjoyed the spin capabilities and placement of this racquet. I was able to kick serves out wide to surprise my opponents and keep them guessing. It was very easy to keep my opponents questioning the position of my serve and the amount of pace and spin on it. I found hitting down the “T” and into the body was child’s play. I could easily place all my shots and apply as much spin as I felt necessary.

Serve Return

On the serve return, this racquet made it easy to hit down the line for easy approach shots. I love how I was able to keep my opponent on his toes having the opportunity to hit every shot in my arsenal on the serve return. Not that I usually do, but I tried a light touch dropshot on a short, spun-in serve for a surprise winner. With this racquet, I was able to play all my weapons and play my game.

On the Whole…

On the Whole, this racquet offers a great blend of a lightweight and control. This racquet is very versatile and spin-friendly. It can be suited to a baseliner’s or serve-and-volleyer’s game. This racquet is a great successor to the Pure Storm Team and addition to the Babolat lineup.
