Head Microgel Mojo
Head’s Microgel technology is a new unique technology. Microgel technology involves the injection of a silicone-based material that has the lowest density on the planet, and is able to support up to 4,000 times its weight. At ball contact this technology helps to evenly distribute the impact load throughout the racquet, providing both rock-solid feel and amazing touch. The Mojo is Head’s intermediate racquet that can help boost your game, but at the same time not break your bank. Specifications include a 100 sq. inch head, a great head size for both beginners and advanced players alike. The racquet’s 10.4 ounce weight is not too overwhelming, and is not at the point where the racquet feels too light. The racquet is also evenly balanced for easy handling.
Groundstrokes
The Mojo had a good amount of power from the baseline. I was able to hit most shots from all around the court. That includes shots that required depth, and touch shots that relied more on spin. It is listed as having the stiffness rating of a more flexible racquet, but it felt much stiffer than what the rating says. This could have been a combination of the Microgel technology, or the cross-bar stabilizer. I was so excited that it was a relatively stiff racquet, since the stiffer the racquet, the more power you get (more power never hurts!). Whatever the reason, it was very apparent that this racquet had a very stiff feel. It would be best suited for someone with moderate swing length and swing speed.. People with longer swings might find that the Swing weight of 301, which is a combination of both weight and balance, might be a little too light; moderate swingers will find it just right. The 100 sq. inch head also provided me with a good amount of real estate to make contact with the ball. In addition to the real estate was the very large sweet spot I noticed when hitting from the baseline. Overall, I found a racquet that could develop a good amount of power, spin, and was easy to hit with from the baseline.
Volleys
Volleys were crisp and clean. I rarely ever hit a volley that I didn’t like. The cross-bar stabilizer was able to provide me with a rock-solid feel up at net as well. The light weight and light swing weight also made it possible for me to keep the racquet in front of me at all times. Hitting touch volleys were no problem - the feel I got from this racquet was unmatched. Not only that, but I was also able to hit volleys that were both penetrating and deep, and precise as well.
Serves
The power that I found from the baseline carried its way over to serves. With a limited swing I was still able to plow that ball through the court on all serves. Another surprising characteristic of this racquet was how easily spin could be put on the ball. Surprising, because the 18 x 19 string pattern would not usually be described as “open”. However it felt that the stringbed was much more open and imparting spin on the ball was not only easy, it was almost effortless. Hitting kick, slice, and flat serves was easy. All balls had good depth as well as spin and precision.
Serve Return
Serve Returns were great. I was able to take some of the fastest serves and put them either at the baseline or the feet of a serve & volleyer. With it’s light weight I was able to keep the racquet in front of me so that I could control the return. I was able to take some great serves and turn them into great returns. Some of the same characteristics I found from the baseline were present in the return of serve. The large sweet spot and maneuverability of the racquet definitely aided me while I was hitting returns.
Overall
I thought that the Mojo was great for someone with a moderate swing. This is a very versatile racquet that could be used by players of many levels. All the way from beginners and juniors switching to an adult frame, to more advanced levels. The power and light weight made it a very easy racquet to play with, and with it’s low price, this is a racquet that is hard to turn down.
