Head Microgel Radical Pro
Head’s MicroGel Radical is the newest addition to the radical series, and it’s sure to benefit your game in every way possible. Their newly developed MicroGel technology is a revolutionary new silicone-based material that uniformly distributes the impact throughout the frame to give you a solid and superior feeling when contacting the ball.
Groundstrokes
From the baseline, the MicroGel Radical Pro truly delivers with its solid feel that aggressive baseliners love. With its open string pattern and 100 square inch head, the racket felt very crisp when hitting a clean groundstroke. The racket also could generate loads of spin for those who want to hit with a lot of topspin. The racket is fairly light and maneuverable so those with a medium to long swing would feel very comfortable when striking the ball. However, at times I did feel that the racket was so stiff that I had difficulty getting the touch I needed to get the ball where I wanted it to. Overall, the MicroGel Radical Pro delivers clean, solid feeling shots from the baseline and also gives you a lot of depth with good pop from the responsive string bed.
Volleys
The MicroGel Radical Pro has a very solid feel which works out great at the net. Punching volleys with great depth and lots of power was a tremendous advantage. With the 100 square-inch head, finding the sweet spot wasn’t hard at all and it was uncommon for the ball to hit the racket without generating a lot of power and control. This racket is absolutely superb for volleying in a variety of situations and I would recommend this racket for those who frequently play at the net.
Serves
On the serve, the racket held up very well. For kick serves, I definitely felt the extra bite the open string pattern offered and it translated into a well-hit serve with lots of spin. It also enhanced my flat serve with power, control, and consistency. Overall, serves had tons of pace and I could also place my serve out wide or down the line consistently.
Returns
This racket was great for returning because of its great feel and weight to give it that stability you want on returns. Another capability you want from a racket on the return is good placement and consistency, which this racket definitely has. In general, the racket gives you a chance to take huge cuts at the ball without taking the risk that the ball is going to fly long.
